Who We Are
For us, enabling drug development
isn’t just business — it’s personal
Lana and Carmen, 2007

Our Story

In early 2007, our founder and CEO, Dave Coddington, traveled with his wife, Lana, to Guatemala City to adopt a baby girl named Carmen. Shortly after they brought her back to the U.S., Carmen was diagnosed with a rare disease called Tay-Sachs AB Variant, a genetic disorder that causes damage to the central nervous system and leads to early death. Just one month after her fourth birthday, Carmen passed away from the disease.

Shortly thereafter, Dave left the predictable comfort of corporate life and founded Project Outlier, refusing to accept that families across the world would suffer the same heartbreak due to the lack of a cure. While we are not scientists, doctors, or academic professionals, we are passionate about enabling the development of life-changing, and eventually, life-saving therapies for patients in need.

Accordingly, we partner with bootstrapped biotechs, emerging pharma, and global life science companies who are equally passionate about achieving the same goal. We believe that technology is a critical and often overlooked enabler of drug development, and we partner with our clients to prepare their IT ecosystem for each phase of their clinical and commercial journey, allowing them to focus on what they do best—the science.

Every milestone our clients achieve, whether big or small, carries Carmen’s legacy forward in some way, and we are eternally grateful for the opportunity to support this industry and all that it does.
